An Introduction to Time Scales and an Application of a New Fixed Point Theorem

The theory of time scales was first introduced by Stefan Hilger in 1988 in order to unify continuous and discrete analysis. Many results concerning differential equations carry over easily to the corresponding results for difference equations, while others seem to be completely different in nature. This talk will first give an introduction to the study of time scales, and in particular, dynamic equations on time scales, which are studied to unify and generalize many results for differential and difference equations. A new fixed point theorem will then be applied to a dynamic equation on a time scale.
