Master of Arts in Education

The Eastern Kentucky University College of Education in conjunction with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics are forming  new Master’s Degree level cohort programs leading to a Masters of Arts in Education (Secondary Mathematics Education).

Curriculum Design

This curriculum is designed to help participants achieve personal professional goals and develop advanced competencies in professional education, academic areas, and professional interpersonal relationships. 

Highlights of the program offering:
(Secondary)

·         Masters of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Secondary Education; Mathematics

·         30 credit hours, 5 semester format (2 classes per semester- 3 credits per class)

·         18 hours of graduate credits in mathematics

·         (This degree should allow participants to teach at the post k-12 level, teach dual-enrollment courses, and teach as an adjunct instructor at the post k-12 level)

·         Convenient classes and class times/Modified On-line class offerings (Minimum Saturday On-campus meetings)

·         Cohort format, students stay in the same group throughout the program, taking the same classes  (on-going support system)

·         Graduate mathematics (content and pedagogical) courses customized for secondary teachers.

·         Cohort 1 classes began in January 2008  (Spring semester, 2008)

·         Cohort classes scheduled to finish in the summer of 2009             (19 months).

·         A program designed mainly for currently practicing secondary math teachers.

·         A limited number of middle/elementary math emphasis teachers looking to “certify up” to secondary may be admitted on a case-by-case basis.

·         Cohort 2 forming in the fall of 2008.

·         Begins classes in Spring 2009

·         (Finish in the summer of 2010 -19 months)

·         Designed by Secondary Teachers for Secondary Teachers.

·         Streamlined admission process.

·         Cohort forming in the fall of 2008.

·         Begins classes in Spring 2009

·         (Finish in the summer of 2010 -19 months)

·         Designed by Mathematics Teachers for Mathematics Teachers.
