Census Bureau Applying for jobs at Census Postdoctoral Research Program- The Bureau of Labor Statistics, the National Center for Health Statistics, and the U.S. Census Bureau offer extraordinary opportunities for postdoctoral research in statistics, computer science, survey methodology, health statistics, epidemiology, economics, demography, and the social and behavioral sciences applicable to large scale sample surveys. Dissertation Fellowship Program - This program seeks to award a limited number of contracts each year to Ph.D. -granting accredited institutions of higher education in the U.S. to fund the dissertation research of doctoral candidates who propose and investigate solutions to problems on the list of research topics of primary interest to the Census Bureau. ASA/NSF/Census Research Fellowship Program- designed to bridge the gap between government and academic science. It allows senior research fellows to come to the U.S. Census Bureau, where they may use agency data and interact with agency staff. Deadline is December 10. Competitive Summer Internship Opportunity at Federal Agencies: Joint Program in Survey Methodology - a nationwide search for a limited number of Junior Fellows. PCMI 2010 - Park City, Utah The IAS/Park City Mathematics Institute runs education and research programs that bring together the mathematics community in a unique way. Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program The McNair Scholars Program is recruiting for the 2009-2010 academic year. This program prepares participants for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. Participants are from disadvantaged backgrounds and have demonstrated strong academic potential. Institutions work cosely with participants as they complete their undergraduate requirements. Institutions encourage participants to enroll in graduate programs and then track their progress through to the successful completion of advanced degrees. Missouri State University Research Ecperiences for Undergraduates in Mathematics Research Experiences for Undergraduates is an NSF-sponsored program that provides students a unique opportunity to actively partivipate in cutting-edge mathematical research with faculty mentors and graduate students. At the end of this program, students will have developed a greater mathematical maturity and will be better prepared to pursue graduate studies. NASA-AESP The Pennsylvania State University’s Center for Science and the Schools, in conjunction with NASA’s Aerospace Education Services Project (AESP), seeks to hire two individuals as Education Specialists. Openings exist at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center in southern California and Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, with the likelihood of future openings at other NASA centers. These are 48 week non-tenure track academic appointments for one year with excellent possibility of renewal; all full-time University benefits apply. AESP Education Specialists support the use of NASA instructional materials and programs by K-12 students, teachers, and the general public, with primary focus on the professional development of K-12 teachers of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects. Responsibilities for these positions include working closely with higher education to strengthen pre-service and in-service teacher education, working with educators to plan and teach space-related content, working with NASA projects on K-12 programming, and facilitating collaborations between K-12 schools and scientists and engineers working in universities, industry, and NASA. Significant national travel is required: AESP Education Specialists deliver programs to schools in all 50 states and U.S. territories. Required qualifications for these positions include Bachelor’s degree or higher in a STEM discipline or STEM education area, teaching certification in one or more U.S. states, at least 3 years of experience teaching STEM-related subjects, evidence of leadership experience in K-12 educational settings, and successful experience delivering professional development to K-12 teachers. Get Your Math PH.D. in Berlin The Berlin Mathematical School (BMS) is a joint graduate school of the three mathematics departments at the universities in Berlin: Freie Universitat (FU, Humboldt-Universitat (HU), and Technische Universitat (TU). Courses are taught in English; applications for admission and financial support are invited from talented students completing their bachelor's degree and above. University of Pittsburgh Research Training Grant The Complex Bioligical Systems Group in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh has reacently received a National Science Foundation Research Training Grant. This award will support graduate students and postdocs for interdisciplinary research projects in mathematical neuroscience, inflammation, and related methods of dynamical systems and numerical analysis.
